As I ponder the question, ‘Is blogging still relevant in 2024?’ or even ‘Is blogging dead?‘, I am reminded of my journey…
I started freelancing in 2017 and have been freelancing since 2019. In 2019, I decided to establish myself as an entrepreneur. It all started with a simple desire to share my experiences and passions. Little did I know that this decision would shape my entire career.
I turned to a blogging business. I created websites, monetized them through Amazon affiliates or Google Adsense, and finally sold them in international marketplaces like Flippa or Empire Flippers.
Back then, Blogging was more of a hobby—a digital diary where I poured out my thoughts and adventures. However, as time went on, I began to realize the true potential of Blogging. It wasn’t just about documenting my life; it was about connecting with others who shared my interests and passions.
If you ask me what has been the turning point in my career progression in the last 12 years, I would say starting a website. I mean, going to a blogging Business, which I began in 2019. I can remember that in 2020, I sold my first international website for about $5500.
I think that was the most turning point in my career because I actively entered the business world, bypassing freelancing and the teaching profession. That is why I have a soft corner for Blogging.
After that, in 2021, I created a website, which I monetized through Google AdSense and Affiliate. In 2021, I sold that website for $14,500.
In the last three years, I have sold many websites, most of the websites are blogs.
As the years went by, I witnessed the evolution of Blogging firsthand. What was once a niche pastime had transformed into a powerful platform for influence and monetization. Bloggers like Khalid Farhan and Adam Enfroy were no longer just hobbyists; they were entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and even celebrities in their own right.

But the world is changing gradually, and the blogging world is also changing. Today, as we stand on the cusp of 2024, Blogging’s relevance looms large. With the rise of social media influencers and video content creators, some may wonder if the humble blog still has a place in the digital landscape.
So this question is definitely relevant: Should we do Blogging now, or is creating a blog now a viable income option? Or should we look for opportunities in other spaces?
If you need more clarification on starting a blog or questioning whether your existing one is still relevant, let me reassure you: there has never been a better time to embrace the blogging world.
Today, we will discuss that matter.
Is Blogging Still Relevant?
Before answering these questions: Is Blogging dead? Is Blogging relevant in 2024? Is it worth starting in 2024? First, I want to ask you a question: In the last six months, how many times have you read blogs, and how many times have you watched YouTube or Facebook videos?

Most of you have watched videos instead of reading blogs. Though this is not quality research, it indicates that Blogging is in a dying phase for many industries.
Again, for some industries, Blogging is not going through a dying phase. We should talk more about that matter.
The average age of a blog reader in 2013 was 41. This statistic is fascinating because the average age of an internet user in 2013 was 18-25. However, it’s important to note that the demographics of blog readers have shifted since then, with a significant increase in younger readers, particularly in digital marketing.
So, think for a while: the average age of an internet user was 18-25, and at the same time, the average age of a blog reader was 41. From this, we clearly understand that Blogging is declining in most industries, particularly those where the primary audience is younger and more inclined toward social media platforms.
If you see the graph between Blogging growth and social media growth & try to compare it, you see so much social media Improvement the blogging industry declined.
One big reason is that those who are young, 18-25 or 18-30, have no apparent reason to go to blogs and read blog posts because, without going to blogs, they can derive such information from social media!
There was a time when blogs were a source of entertainment. I fondly remember the early days of Blogging, when even celebrities like Amitav Bachhan shared their thoughts for our entertainment.
But now, people do not read blogs for entertainment. Now, people go to read blogs for information. For entertainment, he has a lot of better platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook.
For this reason, only for entertainment, no one will go to someone’s blog and read his life update. The time we have passed away.
For the same reason, if you see the other side of the coin, most of the time, those who blog—I mean bloggers who blog about their life in written form—are shifted to vloggers.
That means most of them are not in this industry. This shift is due to the increasing popularity of video content and audiences’ preference for visual storytelling over written narratives.
And this industry is going through a significant change.
It is optional to know trends to understand this change. If we use our brains and consider the innovation in the last five years in the blogging industry, we can call Medium.com a more significant innovation in the blogging world.
Apart from this, if you talk about little innovation, we have seen a lot of Instagram paper-type innovations in the blogging world.
If we talk about the ad publishers’ platform, Esoic and Mediavine are the most notable. Even Google AdSense, a platform like it, increased the amount of earning a payout.
These are all positive signs for Blogging. That’s all.
Apart from these, if you look at the changes made in the last five or ten years, you are still looking for significant changes. These changes include the rise of platforms like Medium.com, the introduction of innovative blog formats like Instagram’s paper type, and the increased earning potential for bloggers through ad publishers like Esoic, Mediavine, and Google AdSense.
On the other hand, if I ask you what changes have occurred in the video world in the last five years? You know that Facebook Watch, Instagram reels, and TikTok revolutionized the video industry.
If I ask you, what changes have come in the audio world? We know Facebook is launching an audio platform alongside the Facebook watch. Spotify is acquiring different podcasts like crazy.
We have seen growth in podcasts in the last five years, which we had never imagined.
So, as much innovation has been made in the video and audio world, we have not seen as much innovation in the blogging world. That indicates that most people’s interest in Blogging is decreasing.
So now, you think by yourself if interest is decreasing for a thing and you plan to create a blog, increase traffic, eventually plan to monetize it, and start earning from it, or plan to sell it and earn handsome money, think by yourself: Should we go to this industry?
Is Blogging Dead?
Hubspot, especially those who work in e-mail marketing, is a favorite for them; they started research in 2020 to determine whether Blogging is dying or not.
Their study found exciting data that every internet user, every person, almost every week, goes to a website to find information, not for entertainment. Even sometimes, they go to a blog by typing the URL of the website, or sometimes, they go to a blog through social media traffic, or they go to a blog by searching on the Google search bar the info, and they land on the blog by SEO search traffic or by paid ads.
But they go to blogs unanimously to get information, not to be entertained.
If we look into some external data, we can determine whether Blogging is dying. For example, we know Empire Flippers, a Popular company in our blogging industry that helps websites buy sales.
I sold websites in Empire Flippers. Last year, one of my friends sold his website for $50,000, the second highest within my friend circle. One of my close friends sold a website for $65,000, the highest for those I knew.
Empire Flippers publishes research annually on the total amount of money it sells on its website. In 2020, it sold $81 million, which is 66% more than in 2019. In 2022, it sold $81 million; in 2023, it sold $81 million.
This indicates that Blogging is a living platform. If Blogging is dying, so many people will not buy blog websites, they will not buy and sell websites, and so much money will not come into the blogging world.
While writing this Article, I went to Empire Flippers to see what websites are available here. The minimum price I found was $39,000. No website allows you to buy under $39,000.
This also indicates that Blogging is not entirely dying because if it were, there would not be so many websites that can be bought and sold at high prices.
Listen, it is needless to deny anyone that Blogging will change its mode from a growth phase to a maturity phase. Once, people read for those reasons; now, they are not reading for the same reason. The reason behind reading blogs has changed. If you realize this, you can go a long way by creating a blog. Blogging can now be taken as a full-time career.
You have to remember the key information: nowadays, people do not visit blogs to be entertained; they visit blogs to get information.
In the past, we created a blog on any topic, and when the traffic increased, we monetized it through affiliate marketing or AdSense. Now, the matter will be more complicated.
Before starting a blog on a selected topic, we must consider whether Blogging is the perfect medium to convey the information we want to share.
It has a three-step process, which is very simple. You all can follow these steps.
Step 1: Choosing the Niche
In step one, you must consider which topics you want to create content on. The best way is to write down your ideas about a topic you are passionate about. You have to write down at least 10-15 passions about a topic on which you will be happy to create content.
This 10-15 passion I mentioned has no boundary. It can be anything: the hands of Thanos, YouTubers, businesses, or cultivating grass. Make sure to enlist all of your preferences. Then, you will move to step two.
Step two: Niche research
In step one, you have finalized 10-15 topics. You are passionate about these topics and can create content about them.
In step two, we must consider the best topic for me to blog about from these 10-15 idealists. If any travel-related topic is on that list you made in step one, I won’t recommend you blog about it.
Because people are not reading travel blogs, they now watch travel Vlogs.
When I first entered the blogging world in 2018-19, I remember that people read travel blogs. If I wish to travel anywhere, I first search Google. When the results come, I visit them and read their stories.
At that time, there was a specific genre called travel blogs.
Travel vlogs now replace the whole matter. And in most cases, people do not watch Vlogs. They go to Instagram and search with hashtags to find where they want to go, if there is any place they can go to see, or what pictures people have taken while going to that place. People have made it smaller.
You have to ask yourself about every topic you listed in step one. Ask yourself if it is a good platform for Blogging. This will help you select the topic you listed in step one.
For example, Blogging is not a better platform if you are passionate about cooking and plan to start a blog about cooking. Once, recipe blogs were very popular around the world. But now, we don’t see opening a recipe blog as a good idea. If cooking is your passion, going directly to YouTube or Facebook Watch is best for you.
Now, if your enlisted 10 or 15 ideas don’t match for Blogging, you can find a side passion that will be good for Blogging from these 15 topics from step one.
In my two examples, there are better fits for Blogging than the travel niche. I recommend going direct with video production for this niche. But if you want to talk about the history of the places you have traveled, for example, you have visited Egypt, and now you want to tell the history of the Pyramids of Egypt.
Blogs and podcasts can be good media for history-type content.
Similarly, video is the best platform for cooking. However, Blogging could be a better platform to discuss food history or how to grow food.
So, you must consider your enlisted 10-15 items from which direct or side angles could be best for Blogging. If you can create this match nicely, Blogging could be your prospective career.
Listen, at the end of the day, every media works for every type of content. I say that video is best for the cooking niche or video is best for the travel niche, but there are still so many websites/blogs that do not use video platforms for travel & still, they are earning $500, $ 1000, $2000, and 5000 dollars. Same for cooking, same for everything.
But I am trying to find an optimum solution so you don’t need to hustle extra.
Step three: Create the blog
If you are at the starting point in Blogging when you think you will start Blogging and are going to the topic research phase, you should consider steps 1 and 2 ideally and select a topic for your blog that is best for Blogging to pass information.
The whole journey will be very smooth for you. Later, when you go to sell your website, your experience will be effortless. It would help if you took that perfect optimum solution to happen. It’s my guess.

Yes, people still read blogs today, and in record numbers. According to the latest blogging statistics, 77% of Internet users regularly read blog posts. Despite a consistent increase in the number of blog readers, how we read blogs and the types of content people enjoy are changing significantly.
The average reader now spends only 37 seconds on a blog post, indicating that most people are more likely to scan for information rather than read an entire post from start to finish. This shift highlights the importance of creating scannable content that allows readers to quickly find the answers they seek and move on with their busy lives.
From my experience as a blogger, business owner, writer, and content marketer, I’ve seen firsthand the importance of delivering a great reading experience.
The Current State of Blogs
A recent survey found that over 60% of all internet users read blogs, with another study indicating that 77% read blogs daily. That’s over 4 billion readers globally.
Furthermore, the popularity of blogs is less comprehensive than that of older internet users.
Statista found that the percentage of young people in the UK reading blogs has grown significantly since 2010. Considering that 60% of Gen Z think a brand’s digital-first impressions are more important than in-person ones, blog posts play a vital role in shaping perceptions.
Why Are Blogs So Popular?
Part of the answer lies in human behavior. While videos are excellent for their visual impact and storytelling power, they can be frustrating when looking for information quickly. The average reader can read 238 words per minute, much faster than the average speaking speed of 150 words per minute.
Additionally, well-structured blog articles with subheadings make it easier to find specific answers quickly, allowing readers to skim through content and locate what they need efficiently.
Once readers find a section that interests them, they can engage deeply with the content, re-reading sections as needed without the hassle of rewatching a video. Moreover, blogs often link to related articles, providing additional information at the reader’s fingertips.
